Creative “Crunch”!

Silence

Caption: “And now…for Mrs. Audrey Burke in Jersey City…two and a half minutes of SILENCE.!

No slight to rock music intended. I’m a fan. In fact I’m listening right now to Alicia Keys (on YouTube) singing her latest R & B Grammy winner: “No One.” My “objection” is to “24/7″ sound! No pause. No rest for the ears. No space between thoughts. Constant external bombardment!

Everywhere I see people of all ages walking around with iPod or CD player plugs in their ears. Apparently, for many, the risk of maybe “hearing” anything unexpected (like other people talking, or birds, or traffic, or wind in the trees, laughter…etc.etc.) is to be avoided at all costs. Will we have any more artists soon? Silence is an imperative for creativity. New ideas arise from silence, sprout and grow in that silence. The “noise” comes later for creators. Silence comes first!
Hence, Mrs. Audry Burke’s request to the 24/7 Request Line for “2 minutes of silence.” That two minutes might well launch a book or a painting or a composition. Maybe even one as good as Alicia Keys’, “No One,” now playing on YouTube.
